Advocacy

The Ohio Alliance for Public Charter Schools has, since its inception, focused on advocacy as a primary service to the charter school movement. OAPCS advocates for quality and choice every day on behalf of students, parents, teachers, school leaders, sponsors and all stakeholders within the charter school community. In communicating the charter school message to elected officials, opinion leaders, the media and families, OAPCS strives to share stories of success, achievement, service and outcomes.

We believe and communicate that high quality charter schools result from:

  • Great leaders and teachers
  • Committed and well-informed governing boards
  • Equitable funding and facilities
  • Purposeful and serviceable data systems
  • Performance management and metrics
  • High-quality professional development
  • Regulatory compliance and accountability
  • Strong financial management

OAPCS provides public policy and grassroots advocacy at both the state and federal levels, disseminating factual information and evidence-based measures for charter schools in Ohio. Through proactive strategies, the OAPCS team continually educates the public, legislators and the media about quality and educational choice.

OAPCS believes collaboration is the key to change and that Ohio’s students can best be served by sharing best practices and working with all education leaders in the state to expand high-performing charters.

Today, nearly 125,000 students in Ohio attend 395 charter schools. Nationally, 3 million students attend 6,700 charter schools in 43 states and the District of Columbia (D.C.).

OAPCS recognizes within its scope of advocacy that one-size does not fit all when it comes to education and all parents should have the right to choose a school that best meets the needs of their child.
