  • The Ohio Department of Education’s Office of Communications and Outreach is offering a new way to communicate with parents about Ohio’s Learning Standards and Ohio’s State Tests. Test Talk for Parents is a short, biweekly newsletter that can simplify what families need to know in their children’s teaching and testing.
  • INFOhio, the State Library of Ohio and the Ohio Education Library Media Association are providing free parent reading tips for PreK-3 through a series of flyers offered to all schools at no cost. The So You’re Parenting…Series, one for each grade from pre-school through grade 3, gives parents activity ideas and tips to prepare their children for Ohio’s Third Grade Reading Guarantee. 
  • The U.S. Department of Education released new guidance for students with disabilities who have individualized education programs (IEPs). The guidance clarifies that students with disabilities should have IEPs that are aligned with state academic content standards for the grade in which a child is enrolled. The Department is seeking feedback on this guidance, specifically on models of alignment that are working well at the state and local level, and how to implement this guidance for students who are English-language learners and students with significant cognitive disabilities.   • A new series of online recordings to assist teachers seeking a deeper understanding of the Third Grade Reading Guarantee and early literacy can be found here. The series includes a literacy toolkit and topical guidance on IEP’s and summer literacy programming.
