The 2016 Keynote Speaker: Author and Educator Kim Bearden

Kim Bearden is an award-winning educator and best-selling author of Crash Course: Life Lessons My Students Taught Me, a book that chronicles what she learned during her 30-year career as a teacher and school leader. She co-founded the highly acclaimed Ron Clark Academy in 2007, a charter school in Atlanta serving grades five through eight. She has served as an instructional lead teacher, curriculum director, school board member, staff development trainer and middle school principal. Bearden was chosen from 70,000 nominations to be named as the Disney American Teacher Awards Outstanding Middle School Humanities Teacher. Women Works Media Group named her one of Georgia’s Most Powerful and Influential Women.

Her book, released by Simon and Schuster, profiles how a group of inner city school students taught her how to overcome personal adversity and achieve success and happiness. Her stories of being a first-year teacher to providing leadership as a charter school founder portray the value of how children can lead adults and be role models for resilience and living with passion. She has taught many workshops for teachers on topics such as student engagement, climate and culture, creativity, technology integration, leadership and parent involvement.

Bearden speaks about her passion for education in this video.
